10 Days Overlanding Zimbabwe

Hayley Smith

Starting in Harare, we hit the road for a 10-day overlanding adventure across Zimbabwe—and what a journey it was! Our route took us through Nyanga, Vumba, Chimanimani, Gonarezhou, Matopos, Hwange, Victoria Falls, and wrapped up at Matusadona.

Our first stop was Nyanga, where the Gairezi River stole the show. There’s nothing quite like swimming in those chilly, clear waters, surrounded by rolling mountains—it felt like stepping into another world. From there, we headed to Vumba and Chimanimani, a paradise for nature lovers. Bridal Veil Falls was an absolute highlight; the falling water against the rugged cliff was pure magic, even had to have a dip in the plunge pool.

Next up was Gonarezhou, and if you love wildlife, this is the place to be. Elephants seemed to be everywhere, wandering freely. Seeing them so close and majestic was unforgettable and to see the Chilojo Cliffs for the first time felt unreal - the size and beauty compares to nothing. We continued to Matopos and Hwange, each stop offering its own beauty, history, and wildlife experiences.

Of course, no Zimbabwe adventure is complete without Victoria Falls. But the thrill didn’t stop there—we crossed into Zambia to swim in the iconic Devil’s Pool. Hanging over the waterfall's edge, looking over that incredible drop, was both exhilarating and humbling.

We wrapped up our journey at Matusadona, a serene spot where the lake, wildlife, and peaceful surroundings were the perfect way to reflect on an unforgettable trip.

This trip wasn’t just about the destinations—it was about discovering the heart and soul of Zimbabwe, an unforgettable adventure for sure!
